Engine/Chassis

Twin Motor Unit (TMU)

Delivers torque directly to the rear wheels with two 27-kilowatt (36-horsepower) electric motors, without the weight and energy losses of a conventional driveshaft and differential.

  • Each motor powers or regeneratively brakes one of the rear wheels.
  • The vehicle can launch from a stop under electric power alone in select situations, powered by the rear motors.
  • In some conditions, such as cornering, power can be sent to the outside rear wheel, while the inside rear wheel undergoes regenerative braking.
    • This torque differential helps improve steering response and reduces understeer by helping turn the vehicle into the corner.
    • The same differential torque control can help the vehicle track straighter on surfaces with inconsistent traction.
